Mongolian Economic Forum Unveils New Regional Development Vision

Regional Development-Mongolian Economic Forum is taking place today for the second day. The day will focus on regional development and in presenting the new Regional Development Concept for Mongolia. The proposed plan divides the country into six regions, Gobi, Hangai, Eastern, Western, Central, and Northern with the Northern Region centering on Orhon, Bulgan, and Huvsgul provinces. Minister Bat-Erdene emphasized the following development priorities: Orhon, will see the development of a heavy industrial complex and establishment of light industries based on agricultural resources, in Bulgan there will be the promotion of smart agriculture practices, Huvsgul will be transformed into a key tourist destination. The Forum brought together participants from provinces, the capital city, local enterprises, and various organizations. Key achievements from the previous Regional Development policy were highlighted, including the creation of energy sources and the construction of a vertical road network. The discussion also touched on amendments to laws and the presentation of drafts related to the Regional Development Concept and received input from government representatives, provincial authorities, and other stakeholders. The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to visit Mongolia on February 7-8, 2024, at the invitation of Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa. The historical context of Mongolia-Germany relations dates back to the Cold War era when Germany, through its "Ostpolitik" policy, recognized the Mongolian People's Republic. Since the reunification of Germany in 1990, the two nations have developed active cooperation across various sectors.
