Mongolia, India Begin Direct Flights
Direct flights between Ulaanbaatar and New Delhi began on September 28, marking a new development in air connectivity between Mongolia and India.
The inaugural flight operated by Mongolian airline Hunnu Air arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sunday morning, while the return flight departed for Ulaanbaatar that afternoon. The service will operate every Monday, with a flight time of around five hours. Previously, travelers between the two capitals had to transit through cities such as Hong Kong, Beijing or Seoul, with journeys taking up to 18 hours. The new direct service is expected to make travel between the two countries more convenient and support the growth of tourism, including visits to Buddhist heritage sites in India and winter tourism in Mongolia. The Embassy of India in Mongolia said the new air link would also contribute to stronger trade ties by making cargo transportation between the two countries faster and more efficient. The launch of direct flights was first announced during President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa’s state visit to India in October 2025, following talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mongolia and India offer visa-free travel to each other’s nationals, while citizens of both countries can also apply for e-visas.
