Mongolian pupils put up good performance in the World School Chess Championship |

May 9, 2012 Mongolian pupils grabbed two gold medals and one bronze medal in the World School Chess Championship 2012 which was recently held in Iasi city of Romania. Mongolia was represented by 16 players in the tournament. Two Mongolian boys won gold medals in the open contests "under 17" and "nine year-old" category and a girl won a bronze in the girls' "under 7-year old" event. |

May 9, 2012 Eight political parties and two coalitions have reportedly announced to run in the June 28 parliamentary election. In accordance with the law, a political party or coalition must submit to the GEC a verified election action plan, a decision of the state audit organization on the budget requirement compliance of the action plan, a monitored and verified report of the last year by an audit organization on the donation made to parties or coalition by citizens and legal subjects and several other documents. |

Mongolia’s western region is to be declared as a “healthy zone |

March 7, 2012 The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) launched fundamental works to declare the western region of Mongolia as a “healthy zone”. For this, some laws and resolutions on veterinary service should be altered. OIE will send its experts to Mongolia for preparing relevant documents, and then, in May of 2013, they will run a voting on declaration of this healthy zone. |

Scholarships for Mongolian students to study in Malaysia |

March 7, 2012 The Mongolian government has welcomed a full scholarship offer by Malaysia’s Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. The Malaysian university would sponsor 10 Mongolian students for a four-year program. The students who pass the program will get a direct entry into the undergraduate course in business and computer science. |

Massey professor is to teach the blind in Mongolia |

March 7, 2012 A Massey University professor will teach the blind in Mongolia the skills they need to become more mobile. Professor Steve La Grow will spend three weeks in Mongolia training six people in orientation mobility. He will train staff to teach blind people to use white canes and adaptive skills to orient themselves and safely move within communities and cities, developing their independence. Professor La Grow has more than 30 years experience in rehabilitation with the blind and those with low vision. |

USAID is to help reduce green house emissions in UB |

March 7, 2012 U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the German Society for International Cooperation or GIZ are to cooperate to reduce green house emissions in Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbaatar. The construction begins on a thermo-technical retrofitting project that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help make Ulaanbaatar an environmentally-friendly city. |
