Some 5000 young Mongolian nationals had reportedly born in foreign countries since 1998.
Foreign Affairs Ministry considers dual citizenship for Mongolians born abroad. Some 5000 young Mongolian nationals had reportedly born in foreign countries since 1998. Particularly, more than 2800 were born and naturalized in the UK, USA and Canada. According to the effective Mongolian law, dual citizenship is not allowed and Mongolian children born abroad are not eligible to assume Mongolian citizenship, even if both parents are Mongolian nationals. There has been set up a joint working group to develop a proposal on potential ways to handle this problem.
