Smart farm is to be introduced in Mongolia. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea's top-tier Research University has signed a partnership agreement with the Mongolian government over expanding smart farms for Mongolia. The partnership will help Mongolia to reduce its heavy reliance on foods imports, as the intelligent farming platforms will enable local residents there to harvest vegetables during extremely unfriendly climate conditions. As Mongolia's temperature in a winter season drops to some -40 degrees Celsius, it has been almost impossible for Mongolia to harvest any vegetables or fruits. The present partnership will help Mongolia dramatically enhance its self-sufficiency for vegetables, as the Internet of Things (IoT)-converged farm management systems are expected to help users manage and keep track of harvest information in real-time. For the project, KAIST will also join hands with the Seoul-based electronics research body, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) over co-developing various greenhouse management systems.
