Mongolia has posthumously awarded Belarusian scholar Vladimir Kulikovich the honorary title of “Leading Cultural Worker” for translating The Secret History of the Mongols into Belarusian, with the translation published in 2025.

The award was announced on October 26 in Minsk during a meeting between Mongolian Culture Minister Aldarjavkhlan Jukov and his Belarusian counterpart, Marat Markov, as part of President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh’s state visit. The decoration was presented to the scholar’s widow, Larisa Kulikovich.

According to Mongolia’s Ministry of Culture, the publication made Belarus the 34th country to translate the historical work into its national language.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in culture, the arts, libraries and cinema. They highlighted plans for Mongolia and Belarus to host each other’s Cultural Days in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

The Secret History of the Mongols, dating to the 13th century, is a major historical and literary source on the Mongol Empire and the life of Chinggis Khaan.
