Mongolia’s mining giant Oyu Tolgoi evaluated positively

MICROMINE has implemented its leading fleet management and mine control solution, Pitram, at the Oyu Tolgoi one of the world’s largest copper mines in the South Gobi region of Mongolia. MICROMINE Chief Operations Officer, Michael Layng commented “The controlled areas module will provide monitoring capability to dangerous or hazardous areas. Supervisors will be alerted when the maximum duration or number of personnel is exceeded within these areas. This will contribute to ensuring a safe working environment for Oyu Tolgoi staff.” Mr Layng adds “OLAP cube performs a multidimensional analysis of operational mining data and provides valuable input for management or supervisors to make decisions.” Mr Layng has already begun to receive positive feedback from Oyu Tolgoi staff. “At this stage, all feedback has been positive. The staff members were pleased with the level of training we provided and complemented our dedication and flexibility in regards to the implementation process.” Owned by Turquoise Hill, Rio Tinto and the Government of Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi recommenced its underground development in 2016. Oyu Tolgoi underground is expected to move into production 2020.
