Mongolia’s first satellite named after the Gobi Desert endangered bear ‘Mazaalai’ will orbit over Mongolia 5 to 6 times per day as reported by the team. The satellite will conduct four scientific experiments in space, which are to locate position using the reverse GPS method with the help of 7 international ground stations of the BIRDS project and to determine speed change of the satellite after locating its position. It will also determine air density and research cosmic radiations in the low Earth orbit. Mazaalai satellite will be installed on July 7 and officially start operation once the ground station at National University of Mongolia receives the first signal, which will be the national anthem of Mongolia. The ground station at the National University of Mongolia was built with donations and supports made by the public, student union of NUM, Student Congress, students and professors of NUM.
