President Kh.Battulga received P.Sergelen, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry to discuss the present drought situation, preparations for coming winter, crop production and hay making progress and livestock industry. The President warned of possible loss of crops and hay, increase in flour price and dzud in coming winter and pointed to the need to foresee such risks and take advance measures. Mr. Minister reported that some 24 percent of the territory of Mongolia suffers from droughts this summer whereas 60 percent are in a mild drought condition. This situation may result in some 40 percent of crop loss, told the Minister. Droughts caused by exceptionally hot weather have forced Mongolia to suspend its grain exports. June saw Mongolia hit by the highest temperatures it has experienced in 56 years, leaving one-third of its farmland suffering from severe drought.
