Mongolia and Korea discuss bilateral ties

Mongolia and Korea held its 4th meeting of intergovernmental joint committee in Seoul, Korea. At the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues such as preparation for upgrading bilateral relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership level, announcing the year of 2020 as the ‘Year of Mongolian-Korean friendship’ on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and organizing 30 political, economic and cultural events as part of those celebrations. The sides agreed to enhance political trust, and establish a strategic dialogue mechanism between the countries. The Korean side proposed to start a discussion on how to proceed with further negotiations on the basis of joint research on the establishment of an Economic Partnership Agreement between the countries to promote bilateral trade and investment. The parties also exchanged views on multilateral and regional cooperation including the North-East Asia Power Interconnection, East Asia Railway Community, promoting peace on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia. It was agreed to hold the next meeting in Ulaanbaatar next year.
