MPs hold virtual meeting with UK Ambassador and Trade Envoy

On May 13, 2021, members of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia G.Amartuvshin and Kh.Gankhuyag held a virtual meeting with H.E. Philip Malone, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) to Mongolia, and Mr. Daniel Kawczynski, the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Mongolia. The meeting was attended by H.E. N.Tulga, Ambassador of Mongolia to the UK, and Mr. Robert Gardener, the Director of Government Affairs at Hogan Lovells in London.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. G.Amartuvshin MP, congratulated Mr. Daniel Kawczynski on his appointment as the Trade Envoy and expressed his wish to meet in person in Ulaanbaatar as the COVID-19 pandemic situation subsides. Also, he thanked Ambassador Philip Malone for his support in organizing the meeting and noted their close collaboration to expand bilateral relations and cooperation. “We are working to establish a sub-Committee on Foreign Direct Investment and Trade Promotion during this parliamentary session. It aims to attract investment in priority sectors of the economy, increase foreign trade turnover, and develop the agricultural and tourism sectors in order to successfully overcome this scourge” he said.

Mr. Kh.Gankhuyag MP, informed about the adoption of the medium-term program designated to address the economic and social disruptions caused by the pandemic. “In this context, to revitalize the economy, Mongolia has started vaccinating its citizens on 23 February and we greatly appreciate the support and assistance provided for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine supply”, he continued. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with the UK in such areas as education, culture, and economy, considering the UK as one of the key players in Mongolia's foreign policy as a third neighbor.

Mr. Daniel Kawczynski, Trade Envoy to Mongolia, expressed his intentions to visit Mongolia with a focus on expanding the trade and economic relations between the two countries. He is looking forward to the MPs support in organizing meetings with business representatives of the financial and mining sectors of Mongolia.

Moreover, the two sides agreed to meet again and have exchanged views on stimulating cooperation in the field of Mongolian wool and cashmere export, agriculture, and education.
