On January 23rd or this Monday, the unveiling ceremony for the postage stamp issued for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the UK took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Opening the ceremony, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Mr. Ankhbayar said, “Today marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In the framework of the historic anniversary, we intend to review the achievements and development of the relations between the two countries and organize a series of events throughout the year, which would define a roadmap for the next decades. Anniversary events start with the unveiling of postage stamps”. Mr. Philip Malone, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mongolia, noted that the United Kingdom and Mongolia have a long-standing tradition of stamps and postal services. I would like to express my gratitude to the “Mongol Post" JSC for creating a unique and remarkable stamp. The 60th anniversary is important for any relations, especially relations between our two countries. The United Kingdom was the first western country that established diplomatic relations with Mongolia, and it has always been proud of that, he stressed. The commemorative postage stamps include the Eldev-Ochir (symbol of strength), the first postage stamp issued in Mongolia in 1924, and the Penny Black, the first world postage stamp issued in the United Kingdom in 1840. In addition, it depicts the logo of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. Twenty thousand stamps were printed. Moreover, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs displayed an exhibition of photographs and books showing the history of relations between the two countries.
