Ambassador of China to Mongolia Shen Minjuan and Foreign Minister of Mongolia Batmunkh Battsetseg on Monday visited Tuv province

Ambassador of China to Mongolia Shen Minjuan and Foreign Minister of Mongolia Batmunkh Battsetseg on Monday visited Tuv province to hand over relief materials provided by China to 500 herdsmen affected by the extreme wintry weather. This winter, Mongolia has been hit by a severe dzud, a severely cold winter when many livestock die because the ground is frozen or covered in snow. The Ambassador and Minister handed over the relief materials including warm clothes, family packages, food and other necessities to herder families in Erdene district of the province. "As an important neighbor of Mongolia, China has paid close attention to the dzud situation from the beginning and took the lead in extending a helping hand to Mongolia," said Shen Minjuan. Battsetseg Batmunkh, who is also president of the Mongolian Red Cross Society, expressed her thanks to China. "Our country has been suffering from the dzud that is more severe than in previous years, and many herder families across the country have been severely affected," she said. China's central and local governments, the Red Cross Society, the Chinese Embassy and Chinese-funded enterprises in Mongolia have provided aid to Mongolia, the Foreign Minister added. More than 4 million head of livestock have died so far this winter due to the dzud, according to the country's State Emergency Commission. The number of livestock in Mongolia stood at 64.7 million at the end of 2023.
