Mongolia, Australia Seek Closer Mining Cooperation
Mongolia and Australia are looking to strengthen cooperation in the mining sector, with a focus on long-term development, workforce training, and investment.
Mongolia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Damdinnyam Gongor, met with Lalita Kapoor, Chargé d’Affaires of the Australian Embassy in Mongolia, to discuss expanding cooperation in mining, geology, investment, and human resource development. Minister Damdinnyam highlighted the importance of the “Mining Week” event in promoting investment and international cooperation in Mongolia’s mining sector. The two sides emphasized the need to improve the investment environment, ensure greater legal and tax stability, and address issues involving investors through dialogue and mutual understanding. Building on 55 years of diplomatic relations, Mongolia and Australia agreed to expand cooperation through specific projects and programs in mining, geology, investment, education, and human resource development. The Australian side expressed its readiness to provide technical support in areas including geological exploration, mining policy, and investment, while further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
