Mongolia’s eastern region to be provided with new reliable energy. The Government of Mongolia implements a project to build a coal burning power plant under a concession agreement in order to provide the eastern region with sustainable and reliable energy. The Power Purchase Agreement was signed to construct 700 megawatt Baganuur power plant, which will cost US$1billion. The power plant is believed to stabilize Mongolia’s cumulative power system, satisfy the needs of increasing electricity consumption in the eastern region, and cut down on imported electricity. The plant is located some 130 km away from the capital city and the Mongolian government agreed to buy each kilowatt of power for seven cents for 25 years.
