International Festival and Symposium of Morin Khuur is held.

International Festival and Symposium of Morin Khuur is held. The festival has been organized every two years since 2008 and represents gathering of Mongolian and foreign academics, researchers, and the Morin khuur learners. This year it gathered people from 8 countries and they all played to learn Mongolian classic “Mongol melody” by composer Jantsannorov. The name Morin khuur translates as a horse-headed fiddle. The top of the neck is made in the form of horsetail's head, which gives the instrument its name. The instrument has got two strings made of horse’s hair. The Morin Khuur’s body and neck are carved from wood. The sound is similar to that of a violin or a cello. To give you an idea of how it sounds, we’d like to play a melodic tune played on the Morin Khuur musical instrument.
