Coldest winter “Zud” alert is announced in Mongolia. The nation is warned to confront the coldest winter in the past decade. The weather forecast tells that the temperatures will reach -47C from November 17until the end of the next week. The National Emergency Commission held a meeting to prepare contingency measures. The above average snowfall already covers more than 30% of the territory the 'zud' natural disaster alert has been declared for nine of 21 provincesof Mongolia. The 'zud' is when the weather is so harsh and domesticated livestock often starve to death when the thick, icy snow buries the grass, or the animals simply freeze because of the cold.
