Germany will support Mongolian protected areas’ landscape with another 7 million EURO under the scope of two countries’ joint cooperation aimed at the protection of Mongolian unique biodiversity.

Germany will support Mongolian protected areas’ landscape with another 7 million EURO under the scope of two countries’ joint cooperation aimed at the protection of Mongolian unique biodiversity. Consequently, this year´s pledge is increased to around 13 million EUR in grant funding for this innovative approach, aimed at improving management structures of natural spaces that deserve particular protection. Last November’s governmental negotiation held in Berlin has secured the financing of 6.5 million EUR from Germany. The joint project named “Biodiversity and Adaptation to Climate Change” has already received 25 million EURO from Germany. The Mongolian contribution adds further 3.5 million EUR and it plans to increase the counterpart contribution. Mongolian Minister of Environment and Tourism highlighted that with this project implementation, Mongolia’s unique nature can be preserved, the livelihood can be enhanced and, the basis for sustainable tourism can be established. Dr. Glass, Head of the Development Cooperation Division at the German Embassy also stressed the importance of preservation of protected areas to Mongolia’s future. Germany has pledged around some 350 million EUR to Mongolian biodiversity, energy efficiency and sustainable resource management sectors within these 25 years.
