Number of Mongolian media organizations decreases. The Press Institution of Mongolia has released the ‘Mongolian Media-Today’ survey which has been conducted annually since 1999. According to the study, the number of media organizations in Mongolia has been constantly decreasing over the last decade. In the years between 2012 and 2017, no less than 100 media organizations closed down. Furthermore, the number of printed newspapers decreased by 40 percent and magazines by nearly 60 percent in the last five years. However, the total broadcasting hours of radio has increased by seven hours a week and eight hours for television. Nearly 100 media sites regularly operate as of January this year. There are more than 4700 jobs in media organizations; 50 percent of which are journalists and editors and 56 percent of them work for television channels.
