German taxidermists help restore stuffed birds collection at Bogd Khan Museum. Bogd Khan Palace Museum, in collaboration with the National University of Mongolia, National History Museum and Naturmuseum Senckenberg of Germany, has started the restoration of stuffed birds of the Bogd Khan Palace Museum. Also, the identification list of the bird species in the collection will be improved. Margit Hanelt and Diana Jeschke, taxidermists at the Naturmuseum Senckenberg of Germany, along with the Bogd Khan Palace Museum and National History Museum have started a training to restore the collection of over 70 stuffed birds, held by the museum. Each stuffed animals are a part of Bogd Khan Jivzundamba's actual animal collection. The stuffed collection was made by an order of Bogd Khaan in Hamburg, Germany in 1901. The collection is unique for including various animals from different continents that are non-existent in Mongolia. This collection of important cognitive value is kept at the Winter Palace of Bogd Khan. Some species of birds are in danger of extinction due to industrialization, urbanization and rapid development of the society. Accordingly, it wouldn’t be strange if the collection included some of the extinct animals. Considering the significance of scientific and cognitive importance, thorough research, restoration and repair are required.
