Mongolia bans formula milk for babies. Amendments to the 2006 law restricting the marketing and imports of infant milk formula were approved by Mongolian parliament past week. According to the amendments, mothers must breastfeed babies until they are six months old and infant milk formula will be issued from pharmacies only under prescription. According to survey, some 67 per cent of mothers tried to breastfeed their newborns in 2010. But separate 2013 figures from the Health Ministry showed that 47 per cent of mothers managed to feed their babies only with breast milk. Furthermore imports of infant milk formula increased by nine times from 1997.
