International throat singing festival organized
More than 200 throat singers from Mongolia, Russia, China, Tuva, Germany, France, and the USA competed in the western province known as the home of throat singing.
The 5th International throat singing festival was held in multi-ethnic Khovd province, Mongolia within the framework of “The Tea Road Heritage” cultural events. More than 200 throat singers from Mongolia, Russia, China, Tuva, Germany, France, and the USA competed in the western province known as the home of throat singing. The festival is held every two years for the purposes to study, protect and pass on the traditional art of singing two or more notes at a time by manipulating the muscles of the throat. “Throat singing art is considered to have been derived from Chandmani soum of Khovd province and many throat singing researchers agree on it. We are paying special attention to develop throat singing and bequeath the cultural heritage to the next generation. As throat singing is spreading over many countries, different types of variations are found favorably. However, it is fearful that the root of throat singing might be lost in this process of development,” Deputy Governor of Khovd province, Uranchimeg said.
