President discusses cooperation with Director-General of the World Trade Organization
They discussed the world economic situation, the trade disputes between countries, and exchanged views on trade and economic policy of Mongolia.
During his visit to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, President of Mongolia Battulga Khaltmaa met and exchanged views on further development of the trade sector with Director-General of the Organization Roberto Azevedo. Moreover, they discussed the world economic situation, the trade disputes between countries, and exchanged views on trade and economic policy of Mongolia. Director-General Roberto Azevedo emphasized that it was important for Mongolia to diversify its economy and the market and in as much as it is also important to prepare human resources. Regarding this, last year over 150 Mongolian public servants participated in long and short-term training courses of the World Trade Organization. Therefore, Mr. Azevedo expressed his interest to visit Mongolia next year to oversee the progress of the cooperation. Mongolia first requested to become a member of the World Trade Organization in 1991 and joined in January 1997. Being a member of the organization, Mongolia has an opportunity to trade with other member countries with favorable conditions, be provided with the necessary information, use multilateral mechanisms in the issue of bilateral trade and obtain technical assistance from the organization.
