Over the last weekend, between March 13 and 14, a total of 28,249 people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines available in Mongolia, including AstraZeneca and Sputnik-V, reports O.Dashpagma, Director of the Vaccination Department of the National Center for Communicable Diseases. This figure takes the total number of people to be partially vaccinated against the coronavirus to over 112,000.
On March 15, 2021, Monday, more than 560 healthcare workers are working at 40 locations around Ulaanbaatar to vaccinate another 15,374 people against COVID-19. The people to be partially vaccinated this week include employees of essential organizations and businesses and elders aged 60-65.
In order to accelerate the vaccination program in the country, which was launched on February 23, around 10,000-15,000 people are being vaccinated in a day.
On March 13, Saturday, the Director of the NCCD O.Dashpagma informed that Mongolia has now received COVID-19 vaccines sufficient to inoculate 12 percent of its adult population and the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered 8 weeks after the first dose.
To date, Mongolia has received a total of 474,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 164,000 doses of AstraZeneca via Indian assistance and COVAX Facility, 300,00 doses of Sinopharm-Vero cell vaccine from China, and 10,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informed that the mandatory isolation guidance for close contacts of COVID-19 has been changed to 14-day home-based isolation, instead of 7-day at a government-designated facility and another 7-day of self-isolation.
This decision was made due to the number of COVID-19 cases of community transmission which is likely to increase in the days to come. However, each close contact will be examined by professionals whether to stay under home isolation or hospital isolation depending on the health condition and their home environment.
