Herder’s living condition near mining area to be improved
“Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development” (FORUM-ASIA) conducted fact-finding research in October 2022
“Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development” (FORUM-ASIA) conducted fact-finding research in October 2022 and held its report launch on “From Dreams to Dust: Examining the Impact of Mining on Herder Communities in Mongolia” on April 10. The research team collected testimonies and data from a wide range of stakeholders in some soums of eastern Dornogobi province that indicated harmful and sometimes fatal impact of mining operations on their health, livelihood, and environment. As a result, “Forum-Asia” developed recommendations in establishing a more detailed criteria for granting and renewing exploration and extraction licences, emphasizing the protection of the local community’s health, safety and environment.
