The Government of Republic of Poland has donated 45,000 Swiss francs of humanitarian aid to help herding families affected by the dzud, natural disaster in Mongolia. Within this context, First Secretary of the Embassy of Republic of Poland to Mongolia, Stefan Hejnowicz met with General Secretary of Mongolian Red Cross Society, Bolormaa.N. At the meeting, Mr. Stefan Hejnowicz said, “Today we discussed how to distribute this humanitarian aid to herders and the most affected areas where more help is needed. Although the harsh winter is over, this assistance is given because it is believed that summer and autumn will be difficult for herder families affected by the dzud. Mongolian Red Cross Society is the most experienced humanitarian partner, so we are confident that this donation will be properly managed." The Embassy of Poland has been implementing social protection projects in Mongolia in cooperation with organizations such as the Down Syndrome Association of Mongolia and Caritas Mongolia, and the cooperation with Mongolian Red Cross Society is one of them. In the year of 2023-2024 dzud, Mongolian herders were critically affected. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, as of May 2, a total of 7.3 million animals were killed in the country. It means 11.4 percent of the total number of livestock in Mongolia. In particular, Mongolian Red Cross Society is a national humanitarian organization, and the Red Cross is an organization that assists the government in disaster prevention and rebuilding.
