The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly will take place in Ulaanbaatar from September 11–15. This gathering will bring together directors, producers, and creators from leading media organizations across more than 40 countries, including Japan’s NHK, China’s CGTN, Korea’s KBS, Australia, Italy, Turkey’s TRT, and many others. Participants will discuss key trends and pressing issues in television and media development.

This is the second time that Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB) is hosting the “ABU General Assembly” in Mongolia. The assembly is organized annually around a central theme. Last year, it was held in the Republic of Türkiye, with a focus on the role of Artificial Intelligence in broadcasting and media. This year’s theme is “Role of Media in Safeguarding National & Cultural Heritage.” Hosting this event in Mongolia provides local media professionals with valuable opportunities to exchange experience, expand international partnerships, and promote the country through global media channels.

The official program of the ABU General Assembly 2025 – Ulaanbaatar will begin on Thursday. Alongside the assembly, the ABU Song Festival will also be held, with artists from about 10 countries participating. Representing Mongolia, the internationally acclaimed band The Hu will take the stage.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is the world’s largest broadcasting association. Through its member network, ABU is estimated to reach over 3 billion people across the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1964 as a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political professional body, ABU’s mission is to support the development of broadcasting in the region. The Union promotes the shared interests of major industry players while fostering both regional and international media cooperation. Over the past decade, ABU has become a global force in using media for social development and nation-building.

Today, ABU has 272 members across 76 countries in four continents. It provides a wide range of services including daily news exchanges, co-productions, program sharing, technical, legal, and management consultancy, as well as organizing industry and international conferences. ABU also plays a key role in negotiating broadcasting rights for major sports events and ensuring regional access.
