Mongolia Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateral Cooperation at UN
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during his participation in the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa reaffirmed Mongolia’s strong commitment to the United Nations and multilateral cooperation during his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The President noted that Mongolia is marking the 65th anniversary of its admission to the UN this year and expressed support for the Secretary-General’s “UN80” initiative.
President Khurelsukh highlighted Mongolia’s contributions to UN peacekeeping operations and its initiatives in promoting international peace and security and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. He also expressed appreciation for UN support in hosting the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Mongolia.
Secretary-General Guterres highly valued Mongolia’s contributions to the UN and multilateral cooperation, noting the country’s active role in promoting regional and international peace and security. He expressed his commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Mongolia.
Mongolia joined the United Nations as its 101st member in October 1961. Since then, it has initiated and secured the adoption of more than 90 UN General Assembly resolutions covering international peace and security, human rights, sustainable development and humanitarian issues.
Among Mongolia’s recent UN initiatives are resolutions on its international security and nuclear-weapon-free status, improving the situation of women and girls in rural areas, cooperatives, literacy, education for democracy, as well as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists and World Horse Day.
