United Nations Day Highlights Mongolia’s Role in Global Cooperation

Densmaa 2026-10-29 12:10

United Nations Day serves as a reminder of the importance of multilateral cooperation and Mongolia’s ongoing efforts to contribute to global solutions while advancing its national interests.

United Nations Day is observed on October 24, marking the anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry into force in 1945. Established after the Second World War, the United Nations now has 193 Member States and works to maintain international peace, promote human rights and advance sustainable development.

Mongolia joined the UN in 1961 and has since contributed to international peacekeeping, environmental protection and multilateral cooperation.

This year, Mongolia hosted the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, known as COP17, in Ulaanbaatar. The conference brought global attention to desertification, land degradation and drought, challenges that are particularly relevant to Mongolia.

Mongolia is also seeking a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2048–2049 term, reflecting its ambition to play a greater role in international peace and security. Meanwhile, the country continues to contribute personnel to UN peacekeeping operations and plans to host an international conference of women peacekeepers in 2027.

As a landlocked developing country, Mongolia also works with the UN to promote sustainable development, improve transport connectivity and strengthen international cooperation.

United Nations Day serves as a reminder of the importance of multilateral cooperation and Mongolia’s ongoing efforts to contribute to global solutions while advancing its national interests.
