Mongolia and Australia have discussed strengthening bilateral and parliamentary cooperation during official talks held in Ulaanbaatar on September 22. The visit marks the first visit by a Speaker of Australia’s House of Representatives to Mongolia in 15 years and comes ahead of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two sides discussed expanding political dialogue, trade, investment and educational cooperation, as well as Australia’s experience in developing an open and transparent parliament. They also exchanged views on launching direct flights between Mongolia and Australia and easing visa requirements for Mongolian travelers. Mongolia also requested Australia’s support in facilitating the extradition of a person convicted in connection with the murder of Mongolian citizen in Malaysia. Australia expressed its commitment to expanding parliamentary cooperation and continuing scholarship opportunities for Mongolian students.
