On the first day of COP17’s second week, ministers and high-level representatives will discuss new financing mechanisms, greater private-sector participation, and opportunities to scale up investment needed to address land degradation and desertification and strengthen drought resilience.

Today’s programme includes Presentations of investable projects aimed at restoring Mongolia’s rangelands; Business4Land events to engage businesses, banks, and financial institutions in land restoration investment; Resilient Threads, a discussion linking Mongolia’s cashmere supply chain, sustainable rangeland management, and herder livelihoods; The Fashion4Land Forum, connecting wool, natural fibres, and sustainable production with responsible land management; The Mining Forum, focusing on land rehabilitation in the mining sector, responsible land use, and investment; The official launch of the Rangelands Flagship Initiative, an international flagship initiative to advance sustainable rangeland management and restoration; A high-level discussion on the interlinkages between land degradation, drought, security, and human mobility; Discussions on cooperation between Mongolia and the Republic of Korea in combating desertification and lessons from 20 years of the Green Wall project; Folklore4Land, an event connecting traditional knowledge, herder cultural heritage, and sustainable land management.

    As part of the COP17 High-Level Segment, ministers and decision-makers from participating countries will also present their positions on scaling up financing for land restoration, expanding public-private partnerships, and directing investment toward concrete projects and implementation.

    COP17’s crucial second week therefore begins with a strong focus on financing and investment, rangeland restoration, sustainable production, and high-level policy dialogue.
