Mongolia and China have begun construction of a 58,000-square-meter sports complex in Ulaanbaatar, funded by a 779-million-yuan Chinese grant and scheduled for completion in 2030.

Construction has officially begun on the Mongolia-China Heads of State Sports Complex in Bayanzurkh District, Ulaanbaatar, with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and Chinese Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Cao Li attending the groundbreaking ceremony.

The project is being implemented under economic and technical cooperation agreements signed by the governments of Mongolia and China in 2018 and 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Khurelsukh expressed appreciation to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for supporting the project, describing it as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

China is providing 779 million yuan in grant assistance to finance the complex, according to Cao Li, who expressed confidence that the project would be completed on schedule.

Covering 58,000 square meters, the facility will accommodate up to 10,000 people and provide daily sports training opportunities for approximately 6,000 young people across 19 disciplines. It will include training halls, playgrounds, sports service facilities, and sports diagnostics and rehabilitation rooms.

The complex is being built by Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2030.
