Professional Hunting Teams to Be Deployed in Bear-Risk Areas
Prime Minister Uchral Nyam-Osor has instructed government agencies to take urgent, coordinated action to protect public safety in areas where bears pose a threat to human life.
The decision follows a tragic incident in which a brown bear entered a residential area and killed a citizen. On behalf of the Government of Mongolia, the Prime Minister expressed his deep condolences to the victim’s family and relatives.
He stressed that authorities must act immediately rather than wait for changes to existing laws and regulations. He said that, while legal amendments may be considered, preventive measures must be carried out under current laws to protect the public without delay. The Prime Minister ordered the deployment of coordinated teams involving police officers, internal troops, the armed forces, rangers, and professional hunters to high-risk areas. Relevant professional organizations were instructed to operate around the clock, while the State Emergency Commission was directed to provide daily updates and essential information to the public.
Authorities were also instructed to take immediate steps to protect people, their health and property, and to capture bears and relocate them to suitable habitats where necessary. To speed up the import and customs clearance of bear tranquilizer guns, medicines, reagents, and other necessary equipment, the Government allocated one billion Mongolian tugriks. Government officials will monitor the implementation of these measures and use available technology to assess the bear population and help reduce risks to the public.
