There has been the notable increase of the electrical heating systems in households in the ger districts in the outskirt of Ulaanbaatar city.

There has been the notable increase of the electrical heating systems in households in the districts with settlements which are not centrally connected to heating and sewerage systems or known as  Ger districts in the outskirt of Ulaanbaatar city. This information was given to Prime Minister Mr Khurelsukh during his working visit to the Ger districts. The Prime Minister was introduced to the family of Ganbaatar who is one of the 20 thousand households in Ger districts that changed their traditional method of heating as burning coal to the electrical heating systems. Ganbaatar`s family started using German electrical heating systems 2 years ago which according to him, saved him from buying raw coals and improved the hygiene of the house. Although only 20 thousand out of 220 thousand families switched to electrical heating systems, the number is expected to increase due to the 2017 measure of Mongolian government for cutting the night-time electricity`s tariff to zero. It was the measurement to curb the air pollution in Ulaanbaatar which exceeds the 80 times more of the World Health Organization`s safety levels of particulate matter and considered worse than the air pollution in Beijing, according to Bloomberg News. The Ulaanbaatar city officials informed the Prime Minister that, this recent uptake in the electrical heating systems in Ger districts resulted in the decrease of the air pollution level by 5 percent, which put down the 50 thousand tons of coal use for burning as the heating sources.  In addition, one of the measures the Mongolian government for tackling the air pollution in Ulaanbaatar is cutting down the number of steam boiler facilities by more than 100 out of about 3000. This initiative is expected to decrease the burning of nearly 60 thousand tons of coal which would thus contribute to curbing the air pollution level.
