Mongolia’s First Oil Refinery 60 Percent Complete
President Khurelsukh inspected Mongolia’s first oil refinery, which is 60% complete and expected to begin operations in 2028, meeting 55% of domestic petroleum demand.
President Khurelsukh visited Dornogobi province on October 12 to inspect construction of Mongolia’s first oil refinery, which is now about 60 percent complete. Around 4,500 engineers and technical workers are working in three shifts to meet the target of commissioning the refinery in 2028. Equipment deliveries are also underway.
The refinery is designed to process 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil annually, meeting an estimated 55 percent of Mongolia’s domestic demand for petroleum products. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce diesel, gasoline, jet fuel and other petroleum products, while creating between 850 and 900 jobs.
