Mongolia and Japan discussed cooperation in afforestation, desertification control, agriculture, and tourism.

Umnugobi Province Governor Nasanbuyan Enkhbat met with Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia Igawahara Masaru on October 19 to discuss expanding cooperation in environmental protection, combating desertification, agriculture, and tourism. With support from the Japanese government, projects are underway in Sevrei and Bayandalai soums to combat desertification and restore the Gobi ecosystem. As part of these efforts, Ambassador Igawahara and his family took part in planting saxaul trees across 100 hectares, digging wells, and installing protective fencing for trees and shrubs. During the meeting, the two sides also discussed introducing Japanese technologies and expertise in afforestation and natural resource conservation, as well as developing winter greenhouses, improving agricultural productivity, and expanding water access in remote areas, including for wildlife. They agreed to further strengthen cooperation in environmental protection, agriculture, and tourism, while promoting youth and student exchange programs between Mongolia and Japan.
