Mongolia Seeks to Enhance Music Education
Mongolia’s Education Ministry has discussed opportunities with British choreographer Xena Gusthard to strengthen music teachers’ professional skills and improve arts education.
Mongolia’s Minister of Education Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren met with British director and choreographer Xena Gusthard to discuss ways to support the professional development of music teachers in general education schools.
Gusthard has worked on major international productions, including Michael Jackson’s MJ The Musical, Burlesque featuring Cher, and Bat Out of Hell.
The discussions focused on current trends in arts education, innovative teaching methods, and opportunities for future cooperation to improve music education in Mongolia.
As part of its ongoing education reform, the Ministry of Education is emphasizing the development of students’ creative thinking, critical reflection, collaboration, self-expression, and respect for others.
The ministry views arts education as an important means of nurturing children’s imagination, confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills, rather than focusing solely on musical techniques or professional artist training.
The ministry is also implementing initiatives to strengthen music teachers’ professional skills. Previous efforts have included capacity-building training organized in cooperation with Otgonbayar Damba, guitarist of the renowned Mongolian rock band Hurd.
